A piece of the story...part 10
The rest of the day they spent wandering through the city and it's numerous parks, but their never-ending conversation had moved on to lighter topics. They were walking past a clothing store when Cassie stopped and gasped. “I just realized something. I can’t go to Tara’s party.”
Henry pulled her out of the flow of people to the wall of the store. “Why not?”
“I don’t have anything to wear.”
She had sounded so perplexed, he had expected her to have an important and serious reason. Only women… “Are you serious?”
“Yes.” Her eyebrows furrowed together, making creases in her forehead. “I can’t wear this-” She gestured to the navy blue suit she wore. “And I don’t have anything nicer.”
“I think you look nice,” Henry offered, hoping to make her blush. She just glared at him and he held his hands up in surrender. “Okay, okay. There’s a clothing store right here. Why don’t you pick something out?”
“Are you serious?” She turned his own question on him, but lowered her voice. “I can’t afford anything in there.”
Henry pushed himself off the wall he had been leaning on, watching her pace, and grabbed her hand. “Lucky for you, I can.”
He was surprised when she didn’t pull her hand away. Instead, they walked hand-in-hand through the racks of expensive clothing. Henry was glad for it, too. Her petite hand fit perfectly in his, and whenever she would get excited, which was quite often, she would squeeze his hand. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the perfect dress for her. Now, being a man, he didn't know anything about the latest fashion, but he did know Cassie. And this dress was simply made for Cassie.
“I think I found it.” He tugged on her hand.
“Oh, Henry. It's perfect.” She said, almost breathlessly. “But it's so expensive.”
“Nevermind that. Go try it onl that will be the deciding factor.”
She giggled and disappeared behind a curtain, the dress over her arm. A few moments later, she came back out, looking shy and self-conscious.
But she was breathtaking. The tulle skirt came right below her knees, and the wide waist perfectly accentuated her thin curves. Henry came to her and grabbed her hands. “You are the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. It’s perfect.”
A blush rose up her neck and cheeks and she lowered her head. “But-”
“No buts. I’m buying it. And I’m definitely not wearing it, so you better accept my gift.”
She laughed and turned to go back to the changing room, but then came back and rose to her tiptoes to press her lips softly to his cheek. He gave her a confused look and she smiled. “Thank you.”

“You like her, don’t you?” Tara broke into his thoughts with a smile.
“Huh?” Henry tried his best to look like he had no idea what she was talking about. But he knew exactly who she was talking about.
“Oh, please. You’ve been staring into space with this weird smile on your face all day. And your face lights up whenever you see her. I’m not blind. I know what twitterpation looks like, and you, my dear brother, are twitterpated.” She crossed her arms smugly and gave him the look, silently daring him to deny it.
Henry grinned and rolled his eyes with a shake of his head.
“Lucky for you, I’ve got the perfect plan.”
The more of her plan that he heard, the more his smile grew. It would be perfect. Just enough to woo her over without being too much. But he needed time to prepare before Tara could persuade her to come.
“You know, I think you two would be perfect together. But be careful, she can be very quiet and extra careful.” Tara paused and smiled. “She likes you, though. I can tell.”
“You think?” To be honest, he was glad. Very, very glad.
