With This Pledge by Tamera Alexander This book is amazing!! (I know I say that for almost every book, but still!) :) This is a story about the battle at Franklin, Tennessee near the end of the Civil War. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Clouston is a governess at Carnton, but when the home is converted into a confederate hospital she is called to assist the military doctor with surgeries on the wounded men. As the long days of tending to the wounded pass, she earns the respect and admiration of the soldiers. Captain Roland Ward Jones, one of the wounded at Carnton, gets caught in the middle of this changing world and wonders how he will care for his family back home, especially with the ever-growing chance of losing his estate along with his slaves.
